Yard sale fashion designer find & Liebster Award

Follow on Bloglovin

Lots of exciting things have happened this week, but God gets the credit for it. You get the credit for it! Yes I may be obsessed with blogging and getting inspired by other peoples blogs/pictures, getting to know others; but nothing is as important as my relationship with Christ. Thank you so much for your encouraging comments in this post and this post.

From the last post I mentioned that I would post a finding/picture of a recent yard sale find. Actually it was given to me from my aunt by marriage with a bag of yard sale clothes and well I couldn’t be more thrilled with this find.

That’s right GIVEN TO ME! My aunt must not know what she has given me, and I don’t know what she paid for it, but I had Nevaeh in it right away the next Sunday.

What do you think? What has been your greatest yard sale or thrift store find in he past few months, years, life?

Now for some exciting news! I was nominated for the #Liebster Award. The Liebster award is given from bloggers to fairly new bloggers that are up and coming and trying to get their name out in the blogosphere. I was nominated from Blaire and Whitney of Peaches In A Pod. Thank you ladies!

In order to accept this honor and to pass it on to other deserving bloggers, there are some rules. Don’t worry they are fun rules.

Here are the Liebster Rules:
1. Post 11 facts about yourself.
2. Answer the questions posed by the blogger who nominated you.
3. Nominate 5-11 bloggers with less than 200 followers for the award.
4. Create 11 new questions for your nominees.
5. Go to each blogger’s site and let them know about the award.
6. Thank the person who nominated you and link back to her blog.

11 Facts about me:

1). I do not like fruits that are orange, that includes orange juice. I don’t know why, I just don’t.

2). For about 5 or more years I use to stop by Starbucks, local coffee shops for ice coffees 3 to 4 times a day. But up until now I am fine with one trip to a coffee shop or make coffee at home. I can’t afford it much more than one trip. If its a date night or a girl date day I may go twice.

3). I have my master’s degree in Early Childhood Special Education from Radford University.

4). I loved bald/browned eyed men for years in my teenage years.

5). I have always wanted to publish a book.

6). I had always wanted twins- got twins (Max and Elizabeth)

7). Dream purse since like 2007 and on has been any Balenciaga handbag. But I can’t afford this and I don’t have time for e-bay or even money for that.

8). I always wanted to get married to my first boyfriend, kiss my first boyfriend and get married in a church with stain glass windows- check, check, check.

9). I was a full time teacher in early childhood special education for 3 years, now a stay at home mom to 4 kids.

10). I can’t cook without a recipe.

11). I am a follower and have a relationship with my heavenly father Jesus Christ.

So here are the answers to the questions they offered me:
1. What have you found most rewarding about blogging so far? meeting people with common ground, and the comments, whether general or encouraging.
2. If you could take a trip anywhere, all expenses paid, where would you go? Ireland
3. How did you meet your significant other? We met at our church young adults picnic 4 years ago. We had both recently stopped seeing other people and liked each other right away. (I had actually heard of him before meeting him). I asked him out and we went to a local coffee shop, played putt putt golf, and then went to a certain overlook and kissed him ;). He was my first boyfriend “serious boyfriend.”
4. What is your favorite movie? Arthur with Russell Brand
5. If you had a million dollars to give away, where would you donate it? I would first tithe it to my church, then Blue Ridge Women’s Center and Campus Crusade for Christ, ministries that have all impacted my life.
6. What is your go-to outfit currently? I honestly still wear maternity pants because I don’t have time or money for finding my current size or know the best price.
7. If you had a day completely to yourself what would you do? nap, do things around the house that need to get done, go shopping (if I had money for it) and sit in a coffee shop and read Bible/blog.
8.What is your favorite sweet treat? brownies
9. Where did you grow up? Virginia (won’t say what city)
10. Heels or flats? Definitely flats and flip flops lol

I nominate the following bloggers:

1).Becky of bybmg.blogspot.com
2).Katherine of jagstyleblog.com
3).Whitney of whitneynicjames.com
4).Danielle of littlebitofwowe.blogspot.se
5).Fonda of savvy-southern.blogspot.com
6). Lexi of atthestreetsofgold.blogspot.com
7).Dez of thestylebender.com
8).Stephanie of vainandsimple.blogspot.com

9).Maria of notfancyjustlife.blogspot.com
I couldn’t come up with the full 11 people but if you have less than 200 followers and would like to be nominated just let me know. I need 2 more ladies to nominate- you coud be visiting for the first time here and want a nonimation and I would be happy to- and follow your blog as well if I am not already.

Here are the questions for the nominees
1). What is your style or look?
2). Favorite designer?
3). What is your treasured item (clothing, jewelry, anything) in your home and story behind it or memory?
4). If you had to keep anyone with you at all times (like a Siamese twin) who would you pick and why?
5). Greatest fashion tip you want to share with the blogosphere?
6). Greatest yard sale/thrift store find?
7). Tea or coffee?
8). If you had to meet one person who had died again who would it be?
9). What article of clothing do you love the most?
10). What is your favorite thing to do with your family/children/hubby?
11). What is your faith background?

I will or have let people know of their nomination by e-mail. Congrats ladies!
Lots of love,
Rachel Xx

Wearing: Shirt: Daniel Rainn ($7 clearance at TJ Maxx)//Leggings: Old Navy// Tank top: Gap (old)//Black necklaces: gifts// Earrings: Charlotte Russe (old)// Heels: Rue 21 (from sister-in-law). Purse: Merona (Target from last year).

Some of you have been waiting on viewing this look so here you go! I am in love with these heels that my sister in law allowed me to borrow. ( Iwill do a post about and on her soon).  I am also in love with this beautiful new top my hubby bought me for $7 at TJ Maxx (Normally $40) on our last date night.  I wore this to church today and got lots of compliments- everyone who knows me knows I don’t dress “clubbish” so it got some comments. Good ones!  I love how the shirt has a sort of mans shirt style but with a pleated train in the back. I paired this with three different shaped necklaces as well- black, metallic, gold what a great combo. This look will definitly be worn on our next date night and with a maxi animal print dress I have (pictures on that in the future). What do you think?

Next post will be a new series called Yard Sale Treasures where I reveal a designer dress for Neveah- actually given to us.  But come back to read what designer and Nevaeh modeling in it.

I am honored to have my DIY bottle cork boat featured on the #fundaymonday link up today- you can view the feature and link up here.

I bet you have your hands full?

Follow on Bloglovin

The question I am asked a million times- I bet you have your hands full? Is starting to get old but really hit me hard today.  Sometimes I cannot believe I am even a “mama” or “mommy” let alone to 4.  Max and Elizabeth are twins (obviously) and  9 months old, Alexander “Xander” is 21 months and Nevaeh 5. How do I do it? (another question I am asked a lot). Well read on.

As Friday’s roll around and my hubby gets paid we have nothing.  After bills, diapers, wipes, food, gas- we have hardly anything.  I am being real here in saying that sometimes we appreciate it when family members give us extra food, clothing for the kids and diapers.  I don’t know where we would be without support sometimes. When tax refunds come each year that’s what we use for another vehicle or house fixings or to pay future house tax payments. But one thing is for sure and that is God is good and at least we have a house, food, no DEBT, A vehicle, a church family and friends/family. Thank you Becky for a glimpse to this reminder. (check out her blog post to get at what I am telling you).  God has always provided so why do I doubt God’s provisions on Friday?  Why  do I trust Him on other days to provide?

I bet you have your hands full could be true- yes with childcare and keeping up with appointments, which child got a diaper change or not; but its more about I have my hands and heart full of love and needing God everyday to keep me full.  He alone provides! That is how I do it!

What the children are wearing in these photos are hand-me-downs or gifts (read up on these below) click each photo above to view it in a large format or you can view them on instagram. If you are not a follower of mine on instagram then click here and I will follow you back! Thanks!
Outfits by order of children in photos:
Elizabeth is wearing: Jacket: Milly (gift)//Shirt: Carter’s (gift)// Leggings: Baby Gap (gift)// Shoes: Ministar.
Max is wearing: Jacket: Old Navy (hand-me-down)//Shirt: Carter’s (hand-me-down)// Pants: Baby Togs (hand-me-down)// Socks: Carters (gift).
Xander is wearing: Shirt and Pants: Old Navy (hand-me-downs)// Beanie: Child of Mine (gift).
Nevaeh is wearing in first photo: Shirt and Pants: J.Khaki// Beanie:Flipeez (gift)//Boots: unknown at moment haha!
Nevaeh is wearing in the second photo: her ballet dance costume from her dance lessons (about $60/from our pockets).

DIY: Art Print

I don’t mean to sound like I have favorites- but I do in the blogging world and Coury is probably right there at the top.  She has a lovely little girl (Miss Goldie), her own clothing shop business-called Fancytreehouse and clothes that are not only beautiful but original. But I digress. The reason this DIY post inspired me is because my hubby and I are in the process of creating/finishing up DIY frames similar to this but with actual glass, paints and stencils and when I read this I thought Coury was a genius- she did it the simpler way haha! Isn’t her work beautiful? Read up on her post for this DIY here.

Black Everything Monochrome black Faux fur

When I saw this look on Kimberly I was in awe! In this post she expresses that a good way to turn an all or almost all black outfit into something exciting is to add textures. Hello!another strike of genius and she did it so well.  Since most of what I wear these days is black (its all I have in my wardrobe) this was an encouraging post to read and use as an inspiration when thinking of what to pair with my next all black (or all colors for that matter) outfits.  Let the ‘texture’ games begin!

With distressed denim being a popular trend in fashion these days I never knew or thought that I would find boyfriend/distressed denim jeans looks that I would like til I saw this look/outfit style on Kelly.  For weeks I have been day dreaming about white tees and drabby or boyfriend style jeans (I have never owned boyfriend jeans and  distressed once). My mind must have been telling me- hey! step out of your comfort zone, try it soon!  When I saw this on Kelly I knew I would want to wear something underneath the white crochet see-through but I just loved it all the same-it’s white! Booties have actually been a day dream of mine lately too, so she pulled all of my dreams into one masterpiece!

Every now and then I organize my “tiny” closet (also shared by my hubby)and wish for more space- especially for shoes. As of now my shoes hang on a shoe rack on the inside of the door, and my clothes for other seasons go in a normal plastic storage bin. Sigh! the bins aren’t even cute but rather stack up on one another. So when I saw this post from Stephanie on how to best organize small closets I immediately began reading.  What I learned was making items in my closet a sort of décor, even outside the closet.  Stephanie took bins (not pictured here) and placed shoes and scarves in them and these went on her bookshelf with books placed in between them so that no one ever knew she kept closet pieces in them. Very outside the box!

Travel: London

Melissa always has such beautiful travelling photos in her blog posts that I couldn’t resist sharing her travel adventures in London.  Since I have always wanted to ride in a double decker and hang out in a tele-booth like this I also couldn’t resist sharing these.  She inspired me to want to spend a day in London! maybe longer!

Thank you for inspiring me ladies and for responding to allow me to share YOUR ideas and posts. :). If I didn’t hear from some of you- your inspirational post can be included in the next “Inspired Me” post. I will try and do this again in the near future- but hey I need more posts to inspire me then so I can HAPPILY share them! Enjoy! and thanks for reading, let me know what you think!?!

Bon Voyage! DIY bottle cork boats (for decor/play)

Follow on Bloglovin

When I saw a picture of DIY bottle cork boats in our recent issue of Family Fun magazine (March 2014 issue) I knew I needed to try it/adapt it myself. I had been looking for a way to use bottle corks in DIY yourself projects (mainly for décor purposes) but this project works for children’s play/boat racing in water as well.

To get started you need the following items: (I adapted the original items to what I had on hand)

-A hot glue gun

– Toothpick (even though the magazine said a coffee stirrer but both work)

– Triangle cut out from paper (I used a checkered pattern from a gift bag because I liked it- although the magazine recommended milk or juice carton triangle cutout).

-Two bottle corks

– Writing utensil to mark triangle outline (optional)

First, take the two corks and toothpick and glue the toothpick in-between the corks. I glued in-between top and bottom to be sure the toothpick and corks had a stronger hold.

Second draw an outline of a triangle on whatever paper or carton you use and cut this out:

After the triangle is cutout glue the triangle onto the toothpick and hold in place for a few seconds.

Viola! You have a boat! It goes great as a home décor piece or functions/floats in a tub or tub of water so you could choose to have your kids/or anyone do a boat race.

Its been CRAZY! around this house lately. But thank you for the comments and for following me. I have gathered a dozen new followers since my last post- which for me is BIG since I am new to blogging, but thank you! let me know what you think anytime 🙂 I also got a twitter account recently but will post that as I figure things out lol! You can tweet follow me here. One thing at a time right?! like I said it’s been CRAZY around here!

First off: Nevaeh turned 5, so strawberry cupcakes with strawberry icing for her classmates was a must! Then she got press on nails and had to model- haha isn’t she cute! I Can’t believe she is a year older!

Then we got hit and snowed in with 17 inches of snow! So we enjoyed coffee at home, playing out in the snow, taking a walk up and down the road, having play dates with the neighbors kids and to top it off a fun game, and casual dine night with our neighbors and friends.
