Hey there, happy hump day to you! To the lovers out there of elephants, fringe and bohemian this post is for you as it contains just that.
This tee is a must-have for your closet as not only is the design on the front of a cool geometric pattern but the fringe and large fit make me feel like I am wearing a light weight blanket or pajama top. I also like the bohemian style to this outfit (well, kind of). I actually daydreamed of pairing this top with a grey or dark maxi skirt and booties but sigh I don’t own a maxi skirt/dress in those colors, heck I don’t even own a maxi skirt.

I wore this outfit on Sunday to church and to several meetings throughout the day and couldn’t be more comfortable. I feel a bit late on the patriotic colors to (July 4th revisited) but July is almost over ahhh!

This little treasure was a recent purchase from dxmall.com (along with the tee I am wearing) and I still can’t believe how adorable it is. (Last day to enter my dxmall.com giftcard(s) giveaway- 3 people will win $50, $40 &$30 to their online store, open internationally- see details and enter below).
These elephant wood carved earrings were a bridesmaid gift from one of my best friends who got them somewhere near or in Morraco. I have had these for two years and still love and wear them often.

Outfit details: Elephant Necklace: dxmall.com (exact here) Shirt: dxmall.com (exact here) Skirt: Old Navy (old)//Flats: Merona (sold out at Target)// Earrings: gift from a friend from Africa. Purse: vintage Phillipe.

LWD & 4 year Anniversary Recap

Follow on Bloglovin

Recently I did a post celebrating my marriage to Chantry for 4 years here, but I wanted to leave you a short photo filled (and outfit post) of our Anniversary recap and date night.

We ended up going to Ruby Tuesday for our dinner (we had a coupon) so I had a scrumptious Chicken Bella entrée (chicken covered with mushroom sauce) and grilled zucchini and fries. The buttery biscuits they bring out to you before your meal of course are to DIE for, I couldn’t get enough. It felt like forever since eating at a restaurant, so we enjoyed every moment of it. Then we sat in Starbucks and drank our beverages (an iced coffee for me, iced green tea for him). We talked and Chantry had some fun gathering information from the baristas, his survey question was “When was the last time you read a book just for your enjoyment?” the baristas couldn’t tell him as they had no clue. I answered with when the twins were first born. My hubby is HIGHLY under the impression that people are becoming less intelligent, as people are so into their technology devices, and less on actual reading, learning and applying. That the art of literacy is dying. (He has agreed to do a post on this on here sometime as he is so passionate about this topic). What are your thoughts on this so that he can address it? When was the last time you read a book front to cover? A magazine front to cover?

Next we went walking and swimming in a river near home (in the dark-I might add. We are just that risky). We ended the night watching Police Academy 3 at home.

This Merona, LWD(little white dress) was the dress I bought from Target the day before we got married. I wore it to the wedding rehearsal and rehearsal dinner and to my own home sleepover with the girls before the BIG day the next day. I am just shocked that it still fits me, so I had to wear it again. What do you think?

****Fact: after the rehearsal stuff I was so tired I didn’t stay up with the girls staying with me but instead went into my bedroom tired and cried because I was overwhelmed with that night being my last night single and about to marry. Am I the only one that cried before they got married? Feelings of joy, fear and sorrow?

Outfit details: Dress: Merona (from Target 4 years ago)//Necklace: dxmall.com buy here(dxmall giftcard giveaway below)//Heels: Maurices (Plato’s Closet)//Sunnies: Plato’s Closet//Purse: Micheal Kors (TJ Maxx).

Here are pictures from our actual Anniversary day:

Of course I had to show off one of my other dxmall.com necklaces, isn’t it a BEAUT?! (buy here).

Thanks for reading! Less than 2 days to enter my dxmall giftcard giveaway below:

Fashion Reinvented

It has been awhile since I posted an outfit post, and for many reasons. Number one I feel like I have nothing when I look in my closet. In fact, Amy Ann of the Real Arnolds feels the same way, check her thoughts out here on budgeting and outfit posts. What I mean is that I don’t own anything really trendy or new. A lot of my clothing is thrifted, from a clothing swap with a buddy, donated or by winning chance through giveaways. My hubby  has worked hard and a lot of overtime and for the past few years and we just haven’t had the budget to be buying NEW clothes as often as we would like, so we wear things over and over till holes or tears turn up.

Number two, I feel like I wear the same jeans, dresses or shirts.

Number three, there is more to life than clothes and what we wear. There are the people around us and other things to be passionate about. For me it’s God and my kids, and our daily activities. I am sorry if weeks ago I went through a outfit post frenzy but as you can see lately I have desired to feature more bloggers, meet new ladies, post about the kids or projects going on. This doesn’t mean I will end outfit posts but it doesn’t need to be my focus on this blog every single time I post.

DSC01233 DSC01235

This outfit here is no exception. Here you see the DKNY jeans that I always wear (these jeans are almost 7 years old, bought on clearance at TJ Maxx) paired with a tee that I won from a giveaway from 65 MCMLXV (isn’t it cute!) The lovely statement necklace was free with a giftcard from dxmall.com that I won from a giveaway (see my 3 winner dxmall.com giftcard giveaway going on now at the end of this post to enter to win $50, $40 or $30). The flats were bought on clearance from Target with a giftcard I had from Christmas, the sunglasses are thrifted along with the other spiked necklace and earrings. The only new item here is my Michael Kors handbag, bought from money my hubby saved for my birthday.

Whew! that was a lot to let out and be honest with you about. My hubby told me on Friday (when I wore this) that he liked it when I dressed up and wore some jewelry, straightened my hair, wore make-up. But as you see here I didn’t have to spend but a few bucks for the whole outfit.

Lastly, The last thing I want people to think when they read this blog is that I have a lot of extra money floating around to get whatever. I don’t.

To end on a great note (other than the giveaway you can enter) I had a great weekend with my hubby and so look to viewing that post tomorrow (or shortly) about what we did in celebrating our 4 year anniversary.

Thanks for reading!

Blogger’s Who Have Inspired Me #6

Follow on Bloglovin

I acknowledge that it has been awhile since my last “Blogger’s Who Have Inspired Me” series, see the others here, here, here and here and here. But it is ALOT of work to find what actually inspires me, gather up the info, e-mail the ladies and take the time to compile the post. I have toyed with the idea of more featured blogger moments (read Ambers and Becky’s) or a link up and then featuring my favorite post(s). Any input will be nice?!

Anyhow, Hopefully you will be inspired today, some how. With the permission of these bloggers to share their posts and blogs I am THRILLED to finally share these with you. If you see a post from one or all of them that you like feel free to follow them or link up to their link-ups as I am sure they would be most appreciative of this gesture 🙂

I am a big fan of Ada and her daughter Vivian and read her blog as often as I can (almost daily). Many months ago she posted this lace tee and plaid/red skirt combo and I was hooked. This is definitely my favorite look on Ada. There is a mix of classy, sexy and edgy all in one outfit. She definitely inspires me to try a edgy but feminine look.

Visit the post here to read more. *Sorry Ada this is months late, as I told you months ago I wanted to feature this. Your’e a doll and so patient xoxo.

A while back, Whitney posted about using the gifts God has given you and not only figuring out what those are and accomplishing them, but to continuously use them. (see post here)When you use the gifts God gives you, you are giving back to Him. Some of Whitney’s gifts included her love for writing, thrifting and creativity beyond her blog.  Hence coming up with Nics Picks where she sells thrifted and vintage items while blogging and styling other ladies. She is continuously growing and using her gifts and waiting for more of what God has in store for her.

She inspired me to take a look at my own gifts. Am I using them to the fullest? Now as I type this, I am not so sure. I love writing, but all I write on now is my blog or facebook, maybe my planner occasionally. But could I be doing more of it to uplift people, help myself, as a way to communicate to God, like a letter to Him.  I love to teach, but some past failures/hurts haunt me and having 4 kids now doesn’t allow for much substituting or a full time job. I teach at church to fulfill this need but could I be more passionate about it? These are gifts I need to pray and ask God to show me how to best use, and with the attitude for using these gifts to ultimately give back to him.

You may think that calling this category ‘permission or inspirational’ is weird but here is my reason why: we need to give ourselves grace, and give ourselves permission to do so. I have always heard one of my best friends Katie talk about needing grace and God’s grace daily as she parents and faces faults or weak areas, but I never quite understood what she was actually telling me. When I read Keri’s post called It’s Ok Dear Mama (read entire post here) I knew right away that God was wanting to show me what grace actually looks like as a mom and past teacher/student, through Keri’s words.

“So I urge you today, as you stare at the piles of laundry, step on Cheerios, lose your patience… Give yourself some grace. You are an amazing mom dear one, you are raising some incredible kids. Let go of the guilt and let the grace flow in.” Keri Snyder

Wow that quote above could just make me cry each time I read it. I am not a perfect mom, or teacher but it is a GREAT feeling to know that God thinks of us as Amazing. Amazing mom’s, women, workers, aunts, or amazing at something that we don’t give ourselves grace for. Thank you Keri for such an inspirational post. (By the way, I teamed up with Keri and 11 other bloggers to bring you a neat “Back to School” idea feature and giveaway coming up on the blog soon, check back as we present it).

Thank you for inspiring me ladies and for responding to allow me to share YOUR ideas and posts. :). Until the next part in the series enjoy! and thanks for reading, let me know what you think!?!

Celebrating 4 years of Marriage

Follow on Bloglovin

Today my hubby and I celebrate 4 years of marriage. Since it’s Wednesday and hubby works evening shift we will probably give each other a “Happy Anniversary baby,” throughout today but actually celebrate this coming weekend. There are lots of ideas up in the air, but a dinner is a must. I already have my outfit planned for this occasion. We will see.

I thought I would share with you some wedding photos and some about what I love about my hubby today, so that you get a glimpse of our special occasion and of him, and some highlights of our marriage.

61256_658474345283_8195041_n 61931_658475522923_6033317_n 58357_656288041653_3877326_n 61256_658474355263_7717758_n

I love you Chantry, thank you for all the love you give. I see how much you love me daily, even when I may not feel it at the time. You complete the parts of me where I am weakest or make these stronger. God knew what He was doing when He put us together, and I am grateful for that. You will always be my “Beu duke” that I fell in love with the day we first met. I love you “Mr, Sexy pants” Happy Aniversary my love!!!! Here’s to many more years together and until the end!

Some facts on our wedding day:

– he cried the entire ceremony he was so happy.

-we got married in our home church (and where we met). Our pastor officiated the wedding.

– attendance was about 150, but we invited about 200. So good turnout.

-we paid our church youth group as a fundraiser to help serve food during the luncheon afterwards.

– our wedding was under $2,000 (we hit up sales and people we knew for deals).

– the best man and other wedding party attendees filled the convertible car with balloons, but these were contained with siren wrap while the roof was down. When we left the church, bubbles blown and people cheering we were about to drive off when I was told the pastor would not allow balloons to be all over the parking lot/grounds (church was next day) so we couldn’t release all the balloons as we sped away. But a few got loose! It was surreal.
-after leaving the church his beat up Chevrolet convertible finally gave up the ghost on our way to our duplex and we had to hitch hike to our house. (Too funny).

-we ate out at a four star restaurant. My hubby changed back into his tuxedo to eat there and I just dawned on a pretty dress.

– we joined my cousin and a childhood friend at a local restaurant for drinks (even though we didn’t drink-well maybe a sip lol). It was fun to just sit with them and talk as my cousin is from NY and I hadn’t seen her for years.

– something I am proud of is that my hubby is my first. I am going to be bold and say that. Waiting for that special someone to share your life and bed with is worth the wait. I was glad we waited til the rings were on the fingers. It wasn’t easy, especially for him, but God is good.

Our Marriage thus far:

– we haven’t had a full fledged yell at eachother fight, although we have had disagreements or hurt each others feelings.

-we always forgive eachother even for the silliest things.

– we have to fight to keep date nights in order and “us” time when we can.

– God must be foremost in our lives, even when we don’t acknowledge it like we should sometimes. God is the perfect example of marriage-his love never fails.

– we have had to pray over our home, literally because 2 divorces that we know of happened with couples in the home before us. So any spirit of separation needed to be put in God’s hands.

-marriage takes work, prayer and sacrifice. Daily we must sacrifice our wants for realizing our needs or whats truly best.

Thank you for reading and sharing this day of celebration with us!~

Featured Blogger Moment: Becky

Follow on Bloglovin

Today I am thrilled to introduce to you a blogger named Becky that I have known for probably my whole entire blogging experience. I met her through a #funday Monday link-up. The first post I read by her was part of her “Thrifty Finds” series. When I read that she was a mommy, wife, believer in the Lord and teacher, I knew I needed to follow her. I enjoy reading her posts daily, from outfit posts, kids activities and DIY projects. Without further adieu here is Becky.

Thank you so much, Rachel, for inviting me to be a feature blogger on your blog!  I always enjoy reading your posts!  I’m Becky, a wife, momma to two boys (ages 1 and 4), a middle school teacher, blogger, Etsy shop owner, and DIYer. I blog at bybmg about fashion, DIYing, thrifting, and just life.
1). The first post I read from your blog was a “Thrifty Finds”

post. I enjoy reading what you find when you thrift. Could you tell me

what your favorite thrifty find(s) has been and why?

Oh, it was fun taking a trip down memory lane with all my Thrifty Finds posts
Here are my top 3 favorite finds:
These Gap Legging jeans.  They are just my go-to jeans now. I love them! I think I paid under $20, and they retail for about $70.
This Gap dress was seriously the luck of the draw!  It fits me amazingly and has POCKETS!  Plus is was $2.95 after a sign up credit at Twice.  Amazing!
This Loft sequin top was something I probably wouldn’t have bought if it wasn’t at Goodwill, but I love it and have worn in a lot! It’s always fun to have a little sparkle in your closet!
2). What do you like to shop for most when thrifting?
Looking back through  my thrifty finds posts, it seems like I am really drawn toward sleeveless tops; I’m not really sure why. But, I have found some good ones!  I also luck out with jeans, too. Every pair of jeans I currently own are thrifted. Jeans can be expensive, so thrifting them saves a lot of money.
3). Describe your style:
This is something I struggle with because sometimes I have a multiple personalities with my outfits.  I would say maybe classic with a twist of thrift? During the cold months, I’m a boots and tights or boots and skinnies kind of girl. I have totally deleted the boring teacher dress pants from my wardrobe. During the summer, I’m kind of all over the place, but I love a good skirt.
4).I also became interested in your blog because you are a mommy of two, wife and teacher, how do you balance it all?
Being organized really helps me balance things. We plan out meals a week in advance. I have lesson plans at least outlined a week in advance.  Same with my blog.  I don’t always love living life “a week in advance,” but it helps in the day-to-day.  Russ and I share Google calendars, but I also love a good paper list (it feels so good to literally cross things off) and lesson plan book. We’re both starting grad school in the fall, though, so let’s pray it doesn’t all fall apart!
5).You also have some great DIY projects, any favorites?
I think one favorite will always be the post that started my blog, the Glider Rocker Redo. It still gets pinned on Pinterest, so I guess that tells me it was a good one.  I also love it because it’s the foundation on which Wesley’s nursery was designed.
Making the Instagram Frame was pretty fun, too.
6). Describe yourself with one word:
Creative.  My mom will verify that I always have been.  I love to make something out of nothing and figure out how to do it myself.

7). How can readers get in contact with you?:

I’m probably most active on Instagram.  I also have a Facebook page and am on Twitter. You can also always drop me an email!

Don’t forget to enter my dxmall.com giftcard giveaway. Three winners will be choosen. One winner will receive $50, another $40 and another $30 to use towards the dxmall.com site. Open internationally to international readers/entrants.

Family Fun day at a petting farm

Follow on Bloglovin
Recently we got back from vacation as a family and with friends and had such a great time that I thought I would share one activity we did together that may not have been as fun for the adults, but for the kids. I take that back, it was fun to see the kids enjoy this activity. Our activity was visiting a local petting farm that was on the Massanutten resort, but not a part of the resort persa. We ended up supporting this local farm and fed some goats, sheep, Tom turkey, chickens and saw ducks, bunnies, pigs, mini- horses, horses and camel.

Goats have to climb! this was a favorite for all the kids.
Now this big guy made my hubby and I want a pig so bad, he was too cute, despite the mud bath:
All in all the kids were freaked out about feeding the animals and petting without adult encouragement or help but they eventually got the hang of it. It was a great activity to promote farm and foreign animals as well.
Thanks for reading. I will put up pool photos from vacation shortly.
