Why I am making the switch

Happy Hump Day! I can’t believe the week is halfway over with already, where has time gone? I normally don’t post on Wednesdays or even Fridays for that matter, but there are just so many things to post about as my time with this little blog dwindles that I want to post as much as I can. If you missed it in yesterdays post (here) I will be making the switch from here to my own blog domain. There are many reasons why and so today I plan on highlighting a list of why I am making the switch.
I have read recently that many bloggers are switching from blogger to wordpress etc, or some bloggers choose to use this time of the year to redesign their spaces, I guess this is all a sort of “spring cleaning” for bloggers, a new change for a new year. For me, this is my year. After blogging for a year and some months I have really been contemplating having my own domain apart from the garaytreasures.wordpress.com until now. You see my follow readers, this blog that you are reading on now (the .wordpress.com) is a free wordpress hosted blog site not self hosted which means I am limited to what I can or have been doing and ENOUGH is ENOUGH. In real world terms I am suffering on this little space and NEED my own.
Some things I cannot do on this free WORDPRESS hosted blog:
-I am out of storage space allotted to me for images, so I have to go back to older posts I don’t care about and delete images or icons just to add some pictures to newer posts, like this one.

-You know when you enter giveaways on other blogs and you can normally see the widget or image for the entries. Not here! Giveaway rafflecopters with wordpress hosted can only be viewed by clicking on the link Rafflecopter link provided.  In the past when I collaborated with a company to giveaway a giftcard this was a concern for them and I nicely told them I had no control over it, but I appreciate their frustration as it frustrated me too.

– When I host my Bloggers Who Have Inspired Me link up on Tuesdays, readers have to click on the cute little frog in-linkz button to be directed to the link up page, the link ups don’t appear directly onto my page and this has been a issue with some bloggers I believe.

-People who may be searching for my blog on search terms may forget to add the .wordpress.com and just give up. I would like for them to have it easy with just remembering garaytreasures.com, granted they can remember to spell garaytreasures.

Let’s be honest some bloggers want to make a little money off their blog with affliate links and such and I can’t or not as easily and here is why:

-Affliate sites turn me down because they don’t want to pay out compensation to a blogger on FREE wordpress blogs.

– It is against free wordpress hosted blogs to have up advertisements or shops on my page, yet they make money off of my blog with surprise advertisements they choose to have up.  I am not allowed to earn money from blogging according to wordpress basically.

I am sure there are many more but these were all I could think of and pet peeves of mine so I hope you learned a little about my frustrations with being free.

Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders (+ GIVEAWAY)

It is hard to believe the holiday Christmas is over with, however our celebration of Christ is not. How was your Christmas? I will be honest I had a lot of great moments with family, and I got a lot of needed things though, so that is nice. Visit my instagram here to see some of my favorite holiday moments.

Today’s outfit is just my favorite so far. I recently got this poncho from White Plum boutique with a gift card and did not pay shipping- so I got this baby for free. SCORE! (exact poncho for purchase here). I just LOVE the sweater feel of it, and the fact that it has sweater sleeves is an extra bonus so a long sleeve shirt to wear underneath is not required like most ponchos.

The leggings were a Christmas gift from my mother-in-law from Kohls and although they are nice they kept riding down, so I kept having to pull the leggings back up- very annoying!

I have seriously worn this poncho twice now, and I can’t wait to find other ways to style it in the near future.

Outfit details: Poncho (White Plum (exact here)//Necklace: Redeemed Jewelry (exact here)//Leggings: Kohls ($16.00, gift)//Boots: Belk ($90, got for $20)//Earrings: thrifted gift.

The necklace you see on me contains some of the lyrics to one of my favorite songs called Oceans by the worship band Hillsong. (If you haven’t heard this amazing song I have found the lyrics here for you to read). The necklace was part of a giveaway with Carrie and Sherri and the shop that makes the necklace is called Redeemed Jewelry. (shop exact one here). This shop sells cute necklaces with messages of hope, worship song lyrics, scripture and images. I am obsessed with how lovely it is, and it came with an arrow and anchor charm. I just love jewelry that involves a story behind it or a biblical truth such as this pendant here. When I wear this necklace (worn 3 times now) and feel discouraged I just look at it and am reminded to just trust God, with my feelings, day, situations and future.

What about you, do you have a favorite article of clothing or accessory that just speaks to you or reminds you of some dear things in life? Leave me a comment and let me know, I would love to hear about yours.

*Also today starting at 7amCST and thru 12/31 12am CST a few bloggers and myself are having a $100 Starbucks instagram loop giveaway that you won’t want to miss. Just go here on my instagram to enter- must follow the rules to be eligible to win. Goodluck!

Bloggers Who Have Inspired Me #13 Link up & Giveaway

Hello lovelies! I don’t know about you but I can’t believe that Thanksgiving has passed. I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving break and time with family. I know I sure did, you can read about mine here and here. It is crazy how it is now December- the Christmas season (if you celebrate it).
Today is the 13th link up for Bloggers Who Have Inspired Me and I just want to say how thankful I am for each and everyone of you that have either dropped by and linked up or left encouraging comments about the chosen bloggers from previous posts. I hope this can be a way to reach out and meet new bloggers and some out of your niches- we all need some blogger love right? Now on to todays featured 5 ladies that linked up last time and a sweet GIVEAWAY at the end of this post.

Dawn of @fashionshouldbefun.blogspot.com posted a nice outfit post/review on the new wedding/engagement ring line with Anjolee jewelry. I was impressed with her review and excited for her ring as I am about to receive the same one in the mail to review any day now, so Dawn just inspired me to think on my future outfit post/review options. You can read her post here.
One Dress Four Ways collage 2

Stephanie of @positivelystephanie.blogspot.com linked up a post on how she challenged herself to remix a simple brown dress into four different styles to create four different outfits. I love how she has taken the role of creating outfits with what she already has rather than feeling she must buy more clothing. I like the way she styled a chambray top and scarf with the dress to give it a skirt look. Which is your favorite in the above photo? Check out her post here to get a better picture of what she did.

Ada of @eleganceandmommyhood.blogspot.com, styled a silver blazer in two different ways to show that a blazer is not only for the corporate working world but useful for extra style and elegance in the everyday wear or “mom” wear. If you want to read up more on this and get a glimpse of how she styled the same grey dress while pregnant a few years back then go here.

I am sure most of you on here are familiar with the link up “What I wore Wednesday.” While I see a lot of bloggers linking up various daily outfit posts I continue to be inspired with how Becky of @bybmg.blogspot.com links up just one post on Wednesdays documenting her personal style for each day as a teacher/mom/expecting mom. I believe I have never seen Becky wear the same outfit as she finds ways to remix what she has already in her wardrobe and it keeps me coming back to her posts on Wednesdays to see what she has come up with. You can view her post here.
DIY Tutorial:
Kym of @bittyandbunny.blogspot.com linked up a neat tutorial on how to create an infinity scarf using her grandmothers collection of vintage scarves. I don’t know a thing about sewing machines and sewing but this was just too neat of a project to not feature. You can check out Kym’s tutorial here.

Cross My Heart

Would you believe this look was just thrown together last minute. I have had all of these clothes and heels in my wardrobe since last fall and thought I would bring them out.
The only new addition to this wardrobe is my new H&M cross necklace, it was $4.95 in the store and how could I resist!!!
I choose to layer this necklace with another thrifted gold chain. I tried to keep the jewelry to a minimal so that there wasn’t so much going on at the top since there is a mixture of prints going on already here.
Throw on a beanie and the look is not only casual but creates a street wear style. This is a look I can’t wait to style with combat boots and leggings instead of jeans in the future. Lucky for me this coming weekend holds boot shopping for me. (Sooo excited!)

What are you bringing out from last years fall wardrobe and what new things are you wearing with it?

Outfit details: Shirt:New Direction (gift)//Cardigan sweater: gift//Skinny jeans:DKNY jeans (old from TJ Maxx)//Shoes: (gift)//cross necklace: H&M in store ($4.95)//gold smalled necklace: thrifted (old)//beanie: Handmade from grandmother-in-law.

Thank you for stopping by! Rachel xo

My hubby thinks it’s..

Sexy! My hubby is referring to the look you see in this post. I wore this to church Sunday and felt a bit awkward in it as I felt it may have put out a provocative vibe, but my hubby assured me that it looked too classy at the same time to give off some naughty vibes. It turned out to be the perfect look for a indoor cookout after church.

Lately, I have been showing you seasonal transition wardrobe pieces, from last post here to todays. It has been raining here forever, so wearing a mixture of summery and cooler weather clothes has been on my mind. If I had been smart enough I should have planned a link up or something on this, but life is crazy for now. Maybe, in the future. What are your thoughts? Anyone else doing a link up like that now that you know of?

As far as my Monday has gone, we ended up not going on the college tour (for my hubby, read post here) because of the rain. Elizabeth has had a fever and been fussy for most of the day so my mom was gracious enough to watch the other kids while I took Elizabeth to the doctor. It turned out to just be a cold, there were no signs of ear ache or sore throat like we thought. My mom paid for my meal at a local restaurant called McAlisters (kids eat free on Mondays) and in general it was nice to spend time with her.

Outfit details: Dress: Michael Michael Kors (old, MK outlet store)//Boots: Kensie (thrifted, gift)//Purse: Michael Kors, Hamilton bag (wedding gift from NY)//Belt: Michael Michael Kors (came with the dress)//Brown stone pendant necklace (vintage Sarah Covington)//Silver & Gold plated necklace: Lia Sophia (gift).

Also thanks to everyone who entered the $60 Target giftcard giveaway. The winner is Jodi Weismann! (Jodi, Keri should have contacted you by e-mail). To all the entrants I plan on hosting or co-hosting more giveaways in the future, so stick around. I have enjoyed getting to know a few new followers on instagram (here). If you have a small or even big business and want to promote your product through giveaways or for my review see my sponsor/collaborate page here and I would be happy to work with you.

Thanks for reading!

LWD & 4 year Anniversary Recap

Follow on Bloglovin

Recently I did a post celebrating my marriage to Chantry for 4 years here, but I wanted to leave you a short photo filled (and outfit post) of our Anniversary recap and date night.

We ended up going to Ruby Tuesday for our dinner (we had a coupon) so I had a scrumptious Chicken Bella entrée (chicken covered with mushroom sauce) and grilled zucchini and fries. The buttery biscuits they bring out to you before your meal of course are to DIE for, I couldn’t get enough. It felt like forever since eating at a restaurant, so we enjoyed every moment of it. Then we sat in Starbucks and drank our beverages (an iced coffee for me, iced green tea for him). We talked and Chantry had some fun gathering information from the baristas, his survey question was “When was the last time you read a book just for your enjoyment?” the baristas couldn’t tell him as they had no clue. I answered with when the twins were first born. My hubby is HIGHLY under the impression that people are becoming less intelligent, as people are so into their technology devices, and less on actual reading, learning and applying. That the art of literacy is dying. (He has agreed to do a post on this on here sometime as he is so passionate about this topic). What are your thoughts on this so that he can address it? When was the last time you read a book front to cover? A magazine front to cover?

Next we went walking and swimming in a river near home (in the dark-I might add. We are just that risky). We ended the night watching Police Academy 3 at home.

This Merona, LWD(little white dress) was the dress I bought from Target the day before we got married. I wore it to the wedding rehearsal and rehearsal dinner and to my own home sleepover with the girls before the BIG day the next day. I am just shocked that it still fits me, so I had to wear it again. What do you think?

****Fact: after the rehearsal stuff I was so tired I didn’t stay up with the girls staying with me but instead went into my bedroom tired and cried because I was overwhelmed with that night being my last night single and about to marry. Am I the only one that cried before they got married? Feelings of joy, fear and sorrow?

Outfit details: Dress: Merona (from Target 4 years ago)//Necklace: dxmall.com buy here(dxmall giftcard giveaway below)//Heels: Maurices (Plato’s Closet)//Sunnies: Plato’s Closet//Purse: Micheal Kors (TJ Maxx).

Here are pictures from our actual Anniversary day:

Of course I had to show off one of my other dxmall.com necklaces, isn’t it a BEAUT?! (buy here).
