How to wear: Hats & Fascinators

Today I am happy to be collaborating with Patricia (or Tea) of to bring you a “How 2 Wear” hats and fascinators. I love how Tea styled her fascinator hat with her laced pink top bringing out the lovely features of her face and beaming smile through the bright vibrant colors. I love how her look can be worn to church, Easter parties, bridal or baby showers or to tea parties. Go to Tea’s page here to see how she styled her fascinator hat.

With spring weather upon us I have become quite the hat wearing lady as I somehow gravitate toward hats in the springtime. With Easter weekend coming up I know I will definitely be wearing my hats to egg hunts, church and to other events; however today I wanted to  show you how to style a hat to create a Boho vibe using an aztec patterm printed maxi skirt, black top, pendant necklace and cognac ankle boots.

To give the feel for a traveling bohemian I went with a patterned maxi skirt and cognac ankle booties.  I am sure this look would have been equally as fun with flared harem pants, flared pants or even skinny jeans but I went with what I wore that day to church instead and just added the ankle boots and hat for a more relaxed look.

Some of you may be wondering not only how to create a similar look but also where to even wear a hat or outfit like this to stand out and make a statement. Here are some fun options: music festivals, countryside walks, carnival, etc. The options for styling this hat for a boho feel are limitless and so are the places you can wear it too.

If you wear hats, how do you like to style your hats?

Want to see how else I have styled a hat for spring time:

I tell ya I can’t get enough of them. Thanks for reading today, outfit details below and who I am linking up with.

Fleurty Bands

For a few days now I have had a household of sick toddlers, my boys even had left ear infections and respiratory infections. You can imagine the lack of sleep and the trying to hold everyone as all they wanted was to be held, and held to sleep. Luckily, they seem to be better as of today. Thank you to some of you who knew and for your thoughts and prayers.
With sick babies and the cold front this winter there is little motivation to go anywhere but to the grocery store or to get gas. I have been a homebody for the past week, going out some for appointments and will be headed to Nevaehs gingerbread house party this afternoon with her kindergarten class. When I have gone out though I have donned a comfortable outfit and shoes, hair pulled back and minimal accessories. With the exception of this cute purple chevron head band that is from Jasmine the creator of the etsy shop Fleurty Bands.
I haven’t worn a head band since last spring or early summer and even then I had store bought ones that seemed to slide off often. With Fleurty Bands though they do not slide off, they are made to stay put. The band is held by a hidden elastic, and the shop has so many different designed bands and for different purposes as well, such as for sports/dance, holidays and just for fun. The fleurty band I am wearing today actually came to me via a giveaway that I entered that several people could win all at once and I was one of the lucky along with 4 or 5 other folks. I love how it not only stays put, but looks stylish at the same time, turning a boring up do or down do to something more.

My sister Annalise (who graciously did these photos) is a big fashion guru and sports player and she loved it as well, and didn’t mind styling it with her matching purple sweater, vest combo. She thought it was so cute and this is coming from a fashionista that wears headbands ALL THE FREAKIN TIME, with being into sports and all.
Jasmine of Fleurty Bands is graciously offering 10% off her items to my readers when you use the discount code GARAYTREASURES10 and this discount will be good until 12/31/2014. Many of her bands sell for $7 up, and if you are not into head bands she also sells equally as cute and designed hair ties for $4.50. Below are some of the cutest pieces from her shop that I think you might like and all for $7-perfect for Christmas gifts to others or to yourself.
Rudolph & Friends             Here Kitty Kitty                The Shipyard

For a night of shopping I have also worn this lovely band this way:
That’s right with hair down (on a rainy day I might add) and cardigan sweater and leggings. I just love the tiny chevron detail. What about you?

Do you wear head bands? When do you most wear head bands?

*Fleurty Bands provided me with this band via a giveaway and a MAJOR discount code for more items in the store in exchange for this review, but all opinions are 100% mine.

Are you a running or know someone running an etsy shop or small business and want more promotion? I would love to collaborate, you can e-mail me for inquiry or check out my sponsor page here.

Bloggers Who Have Inspired Me # 12 link up

Hello and welcome to the 12th “Bloggers Who Have Inspired Me” post/link up. Even though there was a break last week from featuring I was excited when many of you came back and linked up more of your posts anyway, so thank you for thinking of this little new link up party- I am just as excited about it as you must be.

I had the largest number of link ups occur than ever before-26, so thank you, thank you. I also want to thank  those that have regularly been linking up and to the several new followers for linking up. I hope you will enjoy coming back, but until then check out todays featured 5 and remember to link up a recent blog post or more and follow me in some form. This is the FIRST time in a while that I have included thumbnail picture links for more of your enjoyment. I hope you enjoy your Thanksgiving break, time with family and friends. Will see you next Tuesday, December 2 for the next link up.

Robyn of @feelgreatfashion is a newbie to the link up, and I to hers Beautiful You so when she linked up this post I fell in love with the colors of this outfit as they made me think of spring and summer all over again. I liked how the blazer tied everything together and how the pumps added an extra pop of unexpected colors. You can check out Robyn’s post here and her link up here.

Tina of is a regular linker and I just love her blog, and she is a sweet lady if you haven’t met her yet. Today I am featuring her review of her recent TideBuy cuff bracelet and I just loved how she styled it with her lovely fall apparel. Somehow I have been seeing a lot of TideBuy reviews in blog land but hers sticks out. You can read her post here.

Ashley of is a blogger I have known for alittle while so I was thrilled when she linked up for the first time recently. Today I am showcasing her layered coat-igan over overalls. I don’t see very many fashion bloggers display overalls but it is a treat when I see it as I like the trend but don’t often times know how to best style them so that they look hip and stylish. I think Ashley nailed it, and how unique is that coat-cardigan (coatigan) she is styling? You can review her post here for more details on this coatigan. *By the way would you like to see a shirt Ashley had sent to me and how I styled it then check it out here.

Debbie of also linked up a fun layered look combining faux fur, chambray and faux leather and she pulled off the different textures so well I just couldn’t resist NOT featuring her. If you have not checked out her blog you should as she is not just stylish, but downright witty and hilarious. I enjoy reading what she gets herself into. You can check out her post here.

Tif over at linked up a post on her tips for shopping on Black Friday and some ways of saving money (and a trip to the mall or stores). I was intrigued to find out that many stores offer sales pre-black Friday and that some deals aren’t as great as you think. Tif encourages readers to have a plan beforehand of what to shop for, a budget and do research to be sure the products sale is a great deal or not. You can check out her post here to read up more on what she suggests during this busy shopping day or weekend.

Rules of the link up are as follows:

A little Blue

Follow on Bloglovin

If you haven’t noticed already I have an obsession with wearing the color blue. Blue is not my favorite color or at least I would tell you I don’t think it is, but if I wear it a lot and gravitate towards it when shopping then I guess it is a new “favorite” color. There I stated it in stone. I also now own my first leopard print flats crossed off the wishlist and I love them as they are comfortable and were only $8 at Plato’s Closet, how awesome is that. There were other leopard flats I wanted that were $4 but they were 1 size to small and I couldn’t even get my fat toes in them.

I wore this outfit yesterday around my hubby’s college campus with the kiddos and to the on-campus local coffee shop. I felt like the outfit was the only thing keeping me a bit excited for the morning as most everyone was grouchy yesterday (the kids, myself, hubby). We were grouchy for our own reasons, but a nice walk helped and getting to have a break blogging and photo shooting while the babies slept after the walk helped the day go by smoother.

I normally don’t like to show off my wrists or fingers much as I don’t feel these are appealing in my eyes, but decorated with some lovely jewelry such as these bangles from my blogging friend Whitney of helps. I think they are just the cutest and very unique. These are from her vintage online boutique Shop Nics Picks that you can check out here for some awesome (and cheap) viPntage or thrifted pieces of clothes, and accessories. Thanks Whitney for the gifts.
By the way I will be hosting my first link up party next week on the blog. So be sure to stick around to link up and perhaps get the chance to be 1 of 3 or more featured at the end of it.

Outfit details: Shirt: Gift//Jeans: Jacalyn Smith (from swap)//Necklace: Mall of Style c/o//Bangled Bracelets: Shop Nics Picks//Leopard flats: Plato’s Closet//Purse: Michael Kors (gift from NY).

Thank you for stopping by everyone. Rachel xo

Aztec print maxi skirt turned dress

Follow on Bloglovin

Hello everyone, and happy Monday! I hope everyone had a good weekend. On Saturday my hubby and I were suppose to have a date night, but there was some miscommunication between my family (the sitters) and so we ended up spending the day out at the mall with the children and I got some errands done and some online shopping and me time done. I know that some fashion bloggers are participating in the #noshopseptember challenge (which is awesome by the way) but since I never shop for myself I finally took part in spendingthe first of September shopping with a gift card on a lovely Aztec printed cardigan at the Mint Julep Boutique and went to Rue 21 and got a Aztec printed maxi skirt. I am new to the Aztec printed theme but I am just blessed to have had a gift card and some extra money to shop with. Next on my shopping list is a chambray top, leopard print flats and grey jean jeggings and maybe a leopard printed scarf. We shall see, I need to keep an eye out as I don’t want to go expensive on anything, so I may be doing a Plato’s Closet or Goodwill run soon as the mall doesn’t have much of what I am looking for with the price range I am looking for on each item.
Now on to this skirt. I found it on the 50% off rack at Rue 21, it was originaly $20, marked down to 12.99 and I got it for half off of that for a whopping $6. Score!

I choose to wear this Aztec printed lovely as if it was a maxi dress. If I had not told you it was a skirt you probably wouldn’t be able to tell.  The key was to wearing a crop like top I owned and tuck it into th skirt, bringing the skirt up past my waist just under the bosom area. Like you see below.

I love how the pattern looks.

The top I chose has silver and gold embrodiery and sequins that zig zag and creates a Aztec-y pattern about it as well. I wore my punk nail chain necklace and earrings, along with my Rue 21 high heels to give the look a sexy and edgy look.

I cannot wait to style this skirt in other ways, especially into a fall transition style.

What do you think? How would you style this skirt?

Outfit details: Maxi skirt: Rue 21 (on clearance for $6)//Crop top: old //Heels: Rue 21 (old)//Necklace and earrings:thrifted gift.

Casual does it….

Hello everyone, how are you? I am doing good, so no complaining here. Actually, life has been pretty good this past week. Sure there has been some rough spots here and there but nothing you probably care to hear about.
I have been feeling more challenged in my faith in that I am applying Gods word more to my life, or been challenged to be more intentional. Last Sunday my hubby and I watched the movie “God’s Not Dead.” WHOA! we cried most of the film. My hubby and I have felt so far from where we used to be with our relationship  with God. By the end of the film the Holy Spirit just tugged at us. The power of the holy ghost filled me til over the brim with knowing the things in my life that I needed to work out, one being just follow Jesus  and Gods word and remain in t daily so as to know truth, God’s truth in this world of wickedness, and so to ward off the principalities of darkness. This is just my conviction, and opinion, but do see this new film and be changed and challenged whether you are a believer or not.

Anyway, todays dress is from a past collaboration with, only then I styled it more classy and glamorous than what you are viewing now.(You can view the look at the bottom of this post). I traded the silver heels and pearls for a blue beaded necklace, silver punk nail necklace and navy flats. I love the casual change to the dress for that matter.

The perfect Sunday dress once again. I can’t complain at how comfortable it is. What do you think?

What is God calling me to do?

Follow on Bloglovin

This post originally contained a lot of TMI (too much information) about  my past with teaching (I was a special education preschool teacher to two and three year olds), but after letting this post sit in my drafts for a few days I felt I needed to change things and just leave out details. Do you ever do that?

With the past being in the past it is still hard not to revisit the horrible feelings I faced towards the final years of teaching full time. I had great moments, and bad. I worked under some hard administration, the pressures of goals and deadlines, and with some challenging students. Don’t get me wrong I loved some days and the students, and other days I didn’t.  To this day I wish I could have done some things different. Right now I am stuck with wondering if I ever will teach full time again one day, and fear grips me. My own lack of self-confidence in my abilities as a teacher kicks in. Will I make the same mistakes? Will I make a difference? Is this what I am suppose to do?

Sunday night, I met with my best friend of 15 years for coffee and just mentioned teaching and the unknowns, when she asked me this compelling question “Do you feel like teaching was what you were called to do? Yes you went to college for it and taught a few years, but is it your calling?” I was dumbfounded. Instead of coming up with excuses why it is or should have been I just answered “well it was a dream of mine all my life, along with being a mom and writer” Her response was “You are so creative! I love seeing your DIY jewelry boards, and blog posts, that could it be that could be a calling in itself. I want to help you get started if you feel it is (to set up ebay, etsy shop and a facebook page). I was so humbled by her question and response to her help that I just didn’t know what to think. All of that sounds like a dream, but is it my calling or just another phase of life, who knows, but it is a start to finding out.

I am encouraged by Jeremiah 29:11- “For  I know the plans I have for you ,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (NIV)

These words are a promise. I know God will show or speak to me when it is time for what He has called for me next but until then I can pray, seek him, and just trust in what He has for me. I know teaching is a stable income, and I also know that writing and creating things is a passion. But what am I to do with these in the future. If you could help me pray for these unknowns that would be a tremendous blessing.

Thank you for your support and prayers.
