Why I am making the switch

Happy Hump Day! I can’t believe the week is halfway over with already, where has time gone? I normally don’t post on Wednesdays or even Fridays for that matter, but there are just so many things to post about as my time with this little blog dwindles that I want to post as much as I can. If you missed it in yesterdays post (here) I will be making the switch from here to my own blog domain. There are many reasons why and so today I plan on highlighting a list of why I am making the switch.
I have read recently that many bloggers are switching from blogger to wordpress etc, or some bloggers choose to use this time of the year to redesign their spaces, I guess this is all a sort of “spring cleaning” for bloggers, a new change for a new year. For me, this is my year. After blogging for a year and some months I have really been contemplating having my own domain apart from the garaytreasures.wordpress.com until now. You see my follow readers, this blog that you are reading on now (the .wordpress.com) is a free wordpress hosted blog site not self hosted which means I am limited to what I can or have been doing and ENOUGH is ENOUGH. In real world terms I am suffering on this little space and NEED my own.
Some things I cannot do on this free WORDPRESS hosted blog:
-I am out of storage space allotted to me for images, so I have to go back to older posts I don’t care about and delete images or icons just to add some pictures to newer posts, like this one.

-You know when you enter giveaways on other blogs and you can normally see the widget or image for the entries. Not here! Giveaway rafflecopters with wordpress hosted can only be viewed by clicking on the link Rafflecopter link provided.  In the past when I collaborated with a company to giveaway a giftcard this was a concern for them and I nicely told them I had no control over it, but I appreciate their frustration as it frustrated me too.

– When I host my Bloggers Who Have Inspired Me link up on Tuesdays, readers have to click on the cute little frog in-linkz button to be directed to the link up page, the link ups don’t appear directly onto my page and this has been a issue with some bloggers I believe.

-People who may be searching for my blog on search terms may forget to add the .wordpress.com and just give up. I would like for them to have it easy with just remembering garaytreasures.com, granted they can remember to spell garaytreasures.

Let’s be honest some bloggers want to make a little money off their blog with affliate links and such and I can’t or not as easily and here is why:

-Affliate sites turn me down because they don’t want to pay out compensation to a blogger on FREE wordpress blogs.

– It is against free wordpress hosted blogs to have up advertisements or shops on my page, yet they make money off of my blog with surprise advertisements they choose to have up.  I am not allowed to earn money from blogging according to wordpress basically.

I am sure there are many more but these were all I could think of and pet peeves of mine so I hope you learned a little about my frustrations with being free.

Five ways to style a printed maxi dress

One of my favorite things about reading and following other fashion bloggers is getting inspiration for those moments when I want to spice up a piece from my wardrobe. I shop my closet a lot, and over this past year and last I have grown fond of this zebra print maxin dress given to me a few years ago. Since I love it so much and worn it styled in different ways I thought I would share with you what I have mixed this dress with and why.

First Look: Gray cardigan and flip flops

I wore this outfit to church and to the lake afterwards Labor day weekend. The cardigan was just the right item needed for a cool air church sanctuary, but easy enough to slip off as needed. The cardigan adds some mondesty to the otherwise upper back and front cleavage revealing. The gray also illuminates the pattern without causing too much “busyness” to the print.  The flip flops were for mere comfort as I knew I would be on my feet most of the day.

Second Look: Black tunic over top and black studded flats

I wore this yesterday, until it got too hot outside warranting the removal of the tunic shirt, but otherwise I like to call this the “teacher look.” I call it the teacher look because it is the most casual and modest of te styles you will see in this post. When paired with the gold studded black flats the effect of casual and modest is heightened. This is definitely what I would be wearing if I still taught as once again it hides the upper exposed back and front cleavage and as a teacher flip flops and sandals were a no- no.

Third Look: Green cardigan, high pump heels.

This look is edgy yet feminine in my opinion. I think this number is the perfect date night look, as who knows where you might go and if the place will be cold or not. I wore this outfit this past winter on a cool day but not freezing.

Fourth Look: Fedora hat and knotted maxi dress end

I wore this fedora hat with the dress a month or two back at the lake for an afternoon spent with family. The hat added a nice protected against the sunlight and was a good cover up for a bad hair day. The hair also matcs the dress. I tied the end of one side of the maxi dress so I wouldn’t keep stepping on the hem (I was barefoot or in flip flops at the lake).  As you can tell no cover up or cardigan required, I wanted to soak up some sun.

Fifth Look: Pleated sleeveless button up shirt (belted) and sandals

I wore this look back in the late winter, early spring to an outdoor toddler aged birthday party. Because the day was nice weather but still cool I choose to cover up my back and front some. The belt  I used was actually from an Avon necklace that broke and I just reconnected the ends to create a belt, what do you think? The sandals were a bonus as it felt like a beginning of spring to me then.

What was your favorite style here? Have you tried any of these with your printed or non- printed maxi dresses? Any recommendations for how I could style this in the fall?

I may try and do another one of these style an item posts in the near future. Thanks for reading, look below to see who I am linked up with.

*** thank you ADA of Elegance and Mommyhood for featuring my Classy Casual outfit as one of the Spring Must Haves outfits, you are too sweet hun. Go check out the feature and other featured bloggers here. You can also view my other featured compilation of outfits here as I am honored that some link ups or sites in the past have liked my specific outfit stylings, it sure does boost my trying to get prettied up each day rather than look like I woke up and just threw clothes on. So thank you!

Today I would like to show you two styles of lake wear that I favor recently. Since it is summer time we have done nothing but swim at our local gym (almost everyday, well more like 4-5 days a week) but we also have enjoyed some lake time. We spent this past father’s day weekend at the lake and I thought this was the perfect opportunity to document how I dress when going to the lake. Now caution I am wearing no make up in these photos or barely any since I knew swimming would take up a lot of the day, so you will just have to grin and bare it.

Outfit #1 For swimming/sitting on a beach: fedora hat (Virtis) and swimsuit cover up dress (TJ Maxx, old), flip flops- Old Navy, sunnies: Plato’s Closet

Outfit #2 night or day on the pier for a meal or casual outing: Maxi dress: Isadora collection, fedora hat (virtis), purse: Michael Kors ($10 yard sale find, gift from aunt), flip flops: Old Navy

Which is your favorite outfit #1 or #2? What do your wear to the lake?

Easter Dress

Follow on Bloglovin

I hope everyone had a great Easter! I enjoyed family time (see photos and details below) and wearing this Elle Maxi dress. I wore this dress in my best friend Katie’s wedding about 2 years back and can’t get enough of it. I wear it ALOT! It’s a little long, but these wedge shoes worn with them add just the right height and cover up. Plus, I got the shoes at a Goodwill thrift store for $1.50- now you can’t beat that. I also couldn’t forget to include my favorite Michael Kors purse, you are probably tired of seeing it but it’s my favorite. (Linking up with Elle and Jacquline for the Weekly Spotlight just to prove it, this weeks topic is favorite handbags).

Outfit details: Maxi Dress: Elle from Kohl’s (old)//Wedges: Rock &Candy (thrifted at Goodwill outlet $1.50)//Purse: Michael Kors (NYC)//DIY hair décor piece//Earrings: charlotte russe (old).

Spent Sunday morning at our local Mill Mtn. Coffee shop:

Saturday was filled with egg hunts/bouncy houses/kite festival/park:

Sneak peek of the outfit I wore for future outfit post (not a great shot of me I think):

How was your Easter? What kinds of things did you do this past weekend?
