DIY Lipstick

While I was away from blogging for a month I intentionally did a few more activities with my kids and this DIY lipstick project was just one of those that my husband and I did with Nevaeh (who is 6 now) while the babies were asleep for the night. My husband and some facebook friends introduced me to this video here on just how to do it. Below is a list of the ingredients:
DSC02135
A box of Crayola (or any brand) of crayons and as many as you need or want from a pack of 12 to 100+
Coconut oil
Plastic condiment serving cups with lids
Measuring Spoons, especially a 1/2 tsp.
Saucepan/skillet
Measuring cup of about 1 in a half cups of water.
Serving toothpicks or craft sticks
Q-tips or lip brush for applying lipstick at the end

First of all pick out the crayons colors that will be used to make lipstick with and peel off the paper from the crayons (this was the most tedius part).

DSC02137
In the video in the link provided above the presenter suggests writing down the colors used (especially when using many different shades of crayons) I didn’t do this step though.

DSC02136
Fill a saucepan or skillet with about 1 in a half cups of water and then put the skillet on a burner and turn the burner dial to LOW.
Put the same number of plastic serving cups in the water as designated for each color used.
Next take 1/2 a tsp of coconut oil and put it in each individual little plastic cup and let the coconut oil melt
DSC02138
Next break up the crayons and add a 3/4 of a crayon color to each little container and let these melt into the melted coconut oil, stir with serving sticks or toothpicks. ***We made the mistake of adding the whole crayon to each which changed the results big time in the end, but more on that in a moment. ***

DSC02139

As the crayon completely melts stir and remove the plastic containers from the water and let these cool. Then take a q-tip or lip brush and have fun applying.

DSC02147

Nevaeh tried a pink crayon color

DSC02159

I choose a red color that I wore with this outfit post here.

Our results or findings from this project:

-This project takes under an hour to do

-You might spend anywhere from $5-$10 for supplies depending on cost and where you buy items or based on what you already have on hand.

-we placed the whole crayon into the coconut oil when really all was needed was 3/4 of a crayon.
-The lipstick made my lips itch after wearing it for an extended period of time so perhaps lip balm or moisturizer applied before hand would have helped.
– The use of too much crayon cause the lipstick pigment to harden to the point of being harder to get out with the q-tip (theory: possibly because of the adding of the whole crayon rather than 3/4 of it).

Overall it was a fun activity and Nevaeh still applies it daily, to wear to her friends, church etc. I loved getting to spend this time with her.

If you do this activity let me know how it turns out.
Have you ever made DIY lipstick or make-up?

Bloggers Who Have Inspired Me link up, Birthday girl and $300 giftcard giveaway

Good morning! It has snowed non-stop since yesterday morning and we could be getting 12 inches of snow or more, which means that this is what winter feels like and should be. However, the temperature has been in the 15 degrees and under which makes it a little unbearable. Other than the kids going stir crazy I have enjoyed getting cozied up on the couch with a blanket and watching some good movies or Instagramming on my phone.

This past weekend was filled with celebrating Nevaeh’s 6 birthday party. First of all, the actual day of her birthday I made cheesy scrambled eggs and toaster heated some Belgium waffles for dinner (per Nevaehs request) and then whipped up a cake and had a little celebration in our own home. Then on the day of her party we went to McDonalds and had family members and friends from her class over for a party. I am pretty sick of McDonald parties but where else do you have a party in the winter time for a child without spending a ton of money? Sure I could get on Pinterest and come up with themes and do a party at home but I am just not that crafty or organized. Any suggestions? What kind of parties have you done?

Now on to the link up. Todays featured bloggers are below along with a description of each. I choose to do a collage of the ladies featured as something new. I hope you will join in and link up and possibly be featured next Tuesday. Just follow the rules below and say hello to a few bloggers that have linked up.
bloggerswhohavecollage1
1). Megan of @poshprime.com linked up the first of three ways she styled this plaid dress. I loved the edgy-ness to her outfit posted here.

2). Lisa of @beauty101bylisa is a new blogger I have been following and so when she posted this outfit as well as link it up I knew I needed to feature her. The Burberry inspired scarf and styling shorts for winter look is just too cute not to notice. You can follow up on her post (and weekly link up here).
bloggerswhohavecollage2
3). I loved how versatile this scalloped lace top was on Sammi of @beautifuldreamerami. I found myself wondering on the possibilities of what she could style this lovely top with, but I loved her touch of the pink blazer and accessories. You can check out more here.

4). Tiffany of @brightonabudgetl linked up a remix of a black and white small print polka dotted dress and the above th picture is only just one of the ways she styled this lovely dress to create a blouse. You can check out her other remix of this dress in her post here.

5). Becky of @bybmg.blogspot.com is probably one of the busiest ladies I have ever known yet she is just to darn good at it all so I asked her how she did it all and weeks later she wrote up this post and linked it up, so how could I not feature it. Read here as she reviews a book on how to handle it all but more importantly how she really handles it all.

Now it is your turn, just follow the link up rules below:
1). Please link up recent posts and include the link up button or post this URL link back on your blog. Why I took off from blogging in January & Bloggers Who Have Inspired Me link up

Hello and welcome to another “Bloggers Who Have Inspired Me” link up, the first one of 2015 to be exact. I am SO EXCITED to bring this link up back that I could throw a party. Bring on the cake, confetti and of course all of yourselves as the guests of honor. I could go for some brownies at just about now thinking about parties. Anyhow enough dreaming of brownies and a party event; I just want to say that I am glad to be back to blogging from here on out after taking a break in January to do other things beside spending a lot of time on this space. I thank many of you for your e-mails, tweets, facebook messages or comments with wishing me well, letting me know you missed me. I missed you guys as well.

The truth of it is this post was suppose to go live last Monday (my first Monday back to blogging) but there was a switch up at the last moment and I ended up co-hosting Mix It Monday with Lauren of @fizzandfrosting, here. So bare with me as I describe a MAJOR reason for my break and please leave any thoughts and link up as you wish.
In January I took the month off from blogging because I was on a fast for the month to just grow in my relationship with the Lord, spend more time with Him and or in prayer while growing in my relationship with my husband and kids.
My fast included staying away from blogging and Instagram as these have been a stronghold on my relationship with God and others this past year. I enjoy these forms of social media but sometimes God wants more of us, and I couldn’t give Him all of me with blogging and instagram constantly tugging me to the responsibilities required.

Sure my blog and Instagram have grown tremendously in a year but I found that I was putting my self-worth into how many followers I had, or lost, on how my content read, pictures looked, promoting, etc, that I knew from prayer that these were areas I needed to step away from for a bit. Let me tell you it was hard on some days. But now I am back and I have some good and not so good stuff to share with you below on the results of the fast or break and some pictures of my sweet kids and I.

The good results of the fast:

1). I began to pray and feel value in myself, not what others thought of me. Sometimes this is a hard area for me as there are always people with opinions about me or about our family. When I found myself doubting who I am as a person, mom or wife it was neat to have God remind me of who I am in Him, that I am valued and doing the best I can.
DSC02224

2).My hubby and I choose to fast sweets, breads and meats as well and therefore sometimes we had to get creative with what we ate.

10802049_10101170104183943_7215926516422558283_n

Lentil tacos- recipe here, fruits, vegtables, noodles, rice, nuts were all a part of our diet. Giving up sweets (especially brownies and cookies were the hardest). Now we didn’t fast to loose weight, but we did loose a few inches.

3). I am a HUGE advocate for the power of confession. For awhile now my hubby and I had some issues in our marriage that we were scared to talk about but God brought the opportune time in church one day and we talked about things and prayed at the alter about it. There is just a closeness and peace in our marriage now that only God could have restored that day, as we gave up our past hurts and forgave each other, God brought us closer.

4). We saw God provide financial blessings when we needed it.

5). I had been praying for order in the home. My wonderful hubby came up with a typed out list of rules for the household a few days ago and so far we have seen improvement with our kids and with remaining consistent. The rules are on the fridge now for the kids (mainly our 5 year old) to see as a daily reminder of “this needs to be done” or “here are the select times for this,” etc.

6). There were some family issues beyond our family unit that God allowed me to talk about with the other family members.

7). As silly as it sounds I prayed for 100 followers on my blog facebook page after starting with 92 before the fast and in one day I reached my 100 just by tweeting, promoting it, inviting more friends. Happy Dance! Thank you, thank you!

8). Going to church on Sundays have been so hard and stressful for months now. I was going to church, of course, but my attitude was not in check. I was grouchy and stressed before church and I felt that this wasn’t the attitude I needed as I needed to go to church to worship God and grow in fellowship and in His word. I finally confessed my struggles to a life group and the matter was prayed over and yesterday was the second Sunday this past month that I felt “peace” “joy” and just a renewal to be in God’s house and in His presence with other believers.

9). I got to enjoy my children without the need to constantly check “e-mails, instagram, bloglovin, etc.”

There are many more things I could tell you, but with fasting and prayer there also comes attacks from the enemy.

-We had our clothes dryer heating element switch stop working- but God brought us a wonderful family who gave us a used dryer for FREE.

-My laptop contracted a virus or something else that several scans could not fix, hence going to a repair shop (I type this on my hubbies laptop).

– my hubby got in a car wreck leaving our second van wrecked and so we are working out the details and praying for a cheap fix or new vehicle.
susan
Another blessing or biggie is celebrating my pastor’s wife Susan as she finally launched her blog that she had been praying to start for 10 years. If you would give her blog a visit and leave her a note of encouragement or welcome into the blog world, I am sure she would deeply appreciate it. She writes about spiritual, physical and emotional wellness. If you are a health guru or even need just a little bit more of encouragement, prayer or refreshment in God’s word from another perspective then visit Susan’s blog here. Knowing her personally, she is always checking up on others, sweet and very thoughtful. I hope you will feel the same about her as you meet her. Thanks friends!

I am glad the good outweighed the bad while I was gone. I cannot wait to check out your blogs again. I have missed you all.

What have you been up to? Have you ever fasted anything?

Bloggers Who Have Inspired Me #15 Link

Hello and welcome to the 15th link up for Bloggers Who Have Inspired Me. I want to thank the numerous new and come back bloggers who linked up last week, there were so many awesome and inspiring posts that it was hard to choose my favorite 5 to feature today. I hope you will enjoy those featured today and meet some other lovely ladies linked up. I wanted to also report that this will be the last link up of 2014. You can still link up and come back next Tuesday to see my featured 5 ladies but I just won’t have a link up widget up next Tuesday. I want you to be able to enjoy the Holidays and New Years coming. As I mentioned in this post here I will be taking a break for most of the month of January but will resume blogging again in either late or early February. I can’t wait to read what you link up today!

Here are my favorites from last weeks link up-

DIY/Fashion:

1416789054447

Heather of @thriftstories.me linked up a very intriguing post on how she thrifted her sweatshirt and then created the gems design on it. Her idea was to spend less money creating something trendy than spending butt loads of money on something similar sold in the stores. Hop on over to this post here to see how she did. Doesn’t her look just remind you of the 90’s grunge? Hello Claudia, Noami, etc.
Holiday Mason Jar 13
Jill of @dousedinpink.blogspot.com linked up an adorable DIY holiday décor project under the cost of $5. She created these adorable mason jar holiday scenes décor that I think you will enjoy trying for yourself, I know I will. You can check out what she did and materials here.

Fashion:

Hannah of @sweeterthanserenity.blogspot.com linked up a beautiful holiday dress that I think is just stunning for those already here or coming holiday events, plus who doesn’t want to party unless in some glam and sparkle. You can view the entire outfit post here.

groop3
Leanne of @classyyettrendy.com linked up a fun Aztec printed cardigan and boots combo that I just loved. I have been looking into getting ankle booties in this same color so of course her look inspired me with just one of the many ways to style my future tan or camel colored booties. I also like how she added a dresser look to her outfit with the lovely statement necklace.  You can view her post here.

Leggs
Ashley of @fabellis.com linked up a nice review of her new L’egg pantyhose and I reminisced to my younger days where these were THE PANTYHOSE in my families household so I believe in them. I don’t wear pantyhose much anymore (I am a leggings girl what can I say) but I just though Ashley looked lovely as she made a summery look go fall/pre-winter with just the touch of ankle booties and long sleeved shirt. You can view her review and post here.

**Before you start linking up I want to acknowledge Ariana W, as the winner of my 1 year blogiversary, 500 plus instagram follower giveaway last Tuesday. She won a $10 Starbucks giftcard, bracelets and homemade apple butter.  Thank you to all who entered. Bloggers Who Have Inspired Me #14 Link Up & Thank you Giveaway

Hello everyone and thank you for coming by and checking out todays featured 5 bloggers from last week and for linking up. I had so much fun reading the posts from last week and want to welcome back a few followers who took a blogging break such as Maria and Samantha– welcome back ladies I have missed you girls and I am so glad you came by and linked up as well.

To be real here guys I wanted to let you know that I myself will be taking a blogger break for the month of January to sort of recharge, get my life organized and focused on other things for a bit (like being an intentional mommy, spending more time with God) and or plan for future fun blog posts. We all need a break don’t we?  Until then there are still many more fun posts ahead and a fun giveaway going on today.

I recently gained over 500 followers on Instagram, and over 220 on bloglovin and will be celebrating a year of blogging in January and with Christmas coming along I wanted to give some items away as a “Thank You” for following and as a celebration of blogging a year and as my Christmas gift from me to one of you.

Now on to todays featured five and link up.

Fashion:

blogger-image-501255922
Maria of @notfancyjustlife.BlogSpot.com linked up a post of instagram outfits from her instagram (here) and made up a post mentioning how fun it has been for her to remix her closet while she was on a blogging break as she felt that she didn’t have an image to live up to with needing to buy the newest trends (I am right with you girl, I know the struggle). I don’t know about you but blogging has been one of the hardest things to commit to and not want what someone else has or is wearing so I appreciate Maria mentioning this as I realize I am not alone. Aren’t her outfits just cute in this post here?

IMG_1823-690x920

Susan of @charminglucy.com linked up her Liebster Award post (which I was honored to have been nominated on) but that is not why I choose her link, instead I choose it for how real and vulnerable she was with some past frustrations and current joys. I have enjoyed getting to know Susan and can’t wait to show you what the two of us (and Melissa) have been working up to be on the blog soon. You can meet and get to know Susan more through her award post here.

IMG_3473

Debbie of @fashionfairydust.BlogSpot.com linked up a hilarious story about a wolf spider (I think about her story when I get in the shower now and both smile and cringe) and I couldn’t help but love her outfit color palette, red, grey and pink, hello feminine and lovely. If you want a good laugh or smile I HIGHLY suggest her witty posts and fun outfits. You can read this post here.

DIY Tutorial:

sugar scrubs 3

Stephanie of @positivelystephanie.BlogSpot.com linked up a tutorial on how to create a sugar scrub. I liked her idea of giving these easy make scrubs as gifts to others and her girls girlfriends for Christmas. In the past I can remember getting homemade scrubs such as this and loving it on my hands and feet. You can view the original post here.

Recipe:

DecemberRecipe14

Amy of @amyfashionblog52.blogspot.de linked up a yummy recipe for Pineapple Chicken that I felt was so simple and good looking that I felt for sure I could easily make some night as my kids need some more variety in their meals. I have yet to try this recipe I admit, but I can’t wait to try it. You can view this recipe here.

Bloggers Who Have Inspired Me link up 10

Today I welcome you to my fourth link up of “Bloggers Who Have Inspired Me” (click on the link to view older featured bloggers). I enjoy reading other blogs and being inspired, but as promised I chose 5 bloggers who linked up to feature this time around (thank you to all 18 that linked up to my third one last Tuesday).
Lately, I have been doing this link up series every Tuesday, but as this coming week and weekend are going to be busy for me I will not be featuring “Bloggers Who Have Inspired Me” link up next Tuesday, but I plan on getting things back in full swing again the following Tuesday. You can link up as many posts as you want until then. I just want you to enjoy your Halloween (if you celebrate it) and its nice to take a break for a bit- but don’t worry I will be visiting your posts and commenting away.
To link up follow the rules below, link up, visit some of the other bloggers linked up and have fun. I can’t wait to see your posts. Here are todays featured bloggers. Enjoy!

Fashion:

Dawn Lucy of @fashionshouldbefun.com linked up a cozy fall look and is not only sporting her adorable new fringe sweater (which I love) but her new reading glasses. I have been dreaming for awhile to own a comfy and cozy sweater like Dawns for awhile now, and she just looks absolutely cute in hers.  To read up more on what she is up to with these glasses  and look check out her post here.

DIY Tutorial/Fashion:

I am glad to have recently met and been in contact with blogger Amanda of @sansscrubs.blogspot.com. She not only reminds me of my childhood friend in personality and looks but she is just a fun loving person with a fun blog. Today I am featuring her DIY tutorial on how to turn a scarf into a vest. I tried this yesterday and just loved how easy peasy it was, and I wore my scarf like that over distressed flared jeans and simple shirt while running errands. I will post her picture and then mine below it showing off the results.

Thank you Amanda for helping me remix my scarf, I can’t wait to try this with my other scarves soon. You can check out her tutorial post here.

Travel:

Shannon, of @onestylishmom.com linked up a post on her travel adventures to Manhattan. Her post actually made me want to travel there and NOW! I have been wanting to go to NY for awhile now, but it just doesn’t seem practical with 4 kids that are young right now. But anyway I digress. Shannon takes you on a tour to her subway adventures, cupcake shops, NY style pizza shops and much more. You can visit her post here to read up on more of her trip with her hubby.

DIY crafts/Home Tour:

If you love DIY crafts or décor and would love to get some daily inspiration then hop on over to Carrie of @curlycraftymom.com as she posts beautiful tutorials and works and the above is just some of her work.  I just love how creative she is throughout her home, and how each year she brings out past DIY décor and festive DIY décor to brighten up the home and share in the holiday festivities.  Instead of telling you what she has done in the above picture you can instead visit her post here to find out. There you are on an assignment. Also this post is photo heavy of not only her crafts but home as well as she celebrates this fall holiday Halloween.

Love Story:

DIY letter G pumpkin fall decor

1932413_10101042850800743_6232753984004596280_n

I will be the first to admit that I love fall and fall décor over any holiday or season but I have a tough time coming up with the motivation, time and money to come up with fall décor. I am so glad a group of blogging friends came up with a Fall Décor link up (see below to link up) as this was the perfect motivator for me to create a project I have had in mind for a month, and it was free to do, meaning I had all the materials on hand and the pumpkin was given to us from our neighbor who grows them. Today, I will be showing you my DIY letter G (for Garay) on a pumpkin decoration and my thoughts afterwards.

Materials needed:

Pumpkin

Newspaper or paper

Pencil (for outlining the letter)

Paint (I used black acrylic gloss paint as I had it on hand from previous DIY projects)

Paintbrush

Stencil (even though I just sort of free handed it using this pin as a helpful tool)

10712878_10101042851529283_2107320741164259811_n

Like I mentioned above I used this pin as a guide to create my G and I just free handed my outline of a G with a pencil.

10171714_10101042851579183_2226622738208408697_n

Then I started painting in the G.

The result:

10454476_10101042851030283_7358020493510466960_n

This project took less than 10 minutes and was super easy. I cannot wait to get some mums plants surrounding this bad boy. In the future I might paint a pumpkin white or gather whiter pumpkins and paint a G or monogrammed G and surround the pumpkin with littler pumpkins. I could also use a bigger pumpkin as this one was a pie pumpkin.

Thanks for reading. If you have any fall décor be sure to link up below.
